This week during Reading Workshop, we continued to practice reading stories through the pictures and from our memories.  We also started buddy reading, which the children were very excited about. I was impressed with the children's focus and engagement during that time.  Buddy reading, in addition to read-to-self, will become a regular part of Reading Workshop.

During Writing Workshop, the students chose one story from their writing folder to publish. They spent Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday adding details and words to their stories.  We began sharing our stories with the class on Friday, and we will finish next week.  We will also begin our new writing unit, Looking Closely, next week.

This week during Math we:

  • continued to practice adding one and taking one away.
  • learned about the word "attribute" and spent a couple days sorting objects by common attributes.

  • played a new game, Race to the Apple Tree.  This game helps us practice moving the correct number of spaces on a game board.

Next Thursday is our field trip to Wolfe's Neck Farm.  Let's keep our fingers crossed for a nice day!
Best,
Katie
