This week during Reading Workshop we:
  • learned the three different sounds -ed can make at the end of a word.
  • learned that -ed at the end of a word changes the base word to past tense.
  • learned that when we want to read a word with -ed we can cover up the -ed, read the base word, then determine which of the three -ed sounds belongs with the base word.
  • learned about the r-controlled vowels a and o.
This week during Writing Workshop we started writing nonfiction.  This unit is called All-About books.  We:
  • thought of topics we know a lot about and wrote information books about those topics.

  • learned to add a Table of Contents to our books.
  • reviewed sh, th, and ch.
  • worked on adding labels to our pictures.
This week during Math we:
  • learned how to estimate.
  • practiced building and reading two-digit numbers with base-10 blocks.

  • practiced exchanging ten ones for one ten and ten tens for one hundred.
  • learned to write two-digit numbers in expanded notation (ex. 34 = 30 + 4).
  • worked with a partner to tell and solve addition number stories.
  • worked on writing numbers in the hundreds with our personal number scrolls.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend!
