Miss Cross' Last Week!

It has been a wonderful last week with the kids! I feel so lucky to have worked with such a talented young group of students. On Monday and Tuesday of next week, both Mrs. Caron and I will be teaching the students. After the students return from Thanksgiving break I will no longer be in the classroom and Mrs. Caron will take back over. Thank you to everyone for being so great!!

Learning the Turkey Bird Song with Mrs. Elder's class! We will sing this as a whole school next Tuesday at our community meeting!

We also made watercolor turkeys and wrote about all the things we were thankful for!
During Reading Workshop we:

  • Learned a new reading strategy called Skippy Frog. (This is when you skip a word and come back to it later.)
  • Kept practicing Stretchy Snake.
  • Learned that re-reading makes you a better reader.
  • Listened to a book read by Sawyer's mom!
During Writing Workshop we:
  • Wrote seesaw pattern books.
  • Learned how to write more than one sentence on a page.
  • Learned about punctuation!
During Everyday Math we:
  • Learned different positional words.
  • Continued building staircases with Cuisenaire Rods.
  • Started to learn about addition and subtraction sentences.

Happy Long Weekend!

What a quick week!
On Tuesday we got to go on a field trip to Pineland Farms to learn about how cheese is made and visit the cows. We had lots of fun and some of us even got a kiss from a cow! The children also had the opportunity to milk a cow if they wanted to. I think my favorite part was getting to try the cheese at the end. Here are some pictures I snapped on the adventure!

During Reading Workshop we:

  • Kept working on getting exciting about reading
  • Had Mrs. Caron remind us how to use the reading strategy Eagle Eye (Looking at the picture for clues)
  • Looked for patterns in our books to help us read the words
During Writing Workshop we:
  • Practiced word spaces
  • Choose a title that makes sense for our writing
  • Continued working on pattern books
  • Fancied up our work by adding more words and details to our pictures
During Everday Math we:
  • Practiced writing our numbers
  • Started new math stations
  • Worked on adding one to a number

Happy November!

It's already Friday! Can you believe it? The kids had a great day Monday and enjoyed lunch in a spooky cafeteria. Thank you to the lunch staff who did a wonderful job decorating and making it fun for the kids.

Our fast growing plants have already sprouted! We are recording what they look like each step of the way.

During Reading Workshop we:

  • Started reading pattern books.
  • Continued to practice making a plan for when we read.
  • Made sure the number of words we read matched the number of words on the page.
  • Looked at characters faces to make predictions about what the character was feeling.
  • Pointed only once to a multi-syllable word when reading.
We have also started Literacy Stations!
During Writing Workshop we:
  • Thought of a big idea and worked on adding details.
  • Started making pattern books.
  • Wrote books about topics we knew at least four or five things about.
During Math we:
  • Worked on graphing using pattern blocks.
  • Practiced the different ways to make ten by using double sided counters.
  • Focused on writing the number one.
Things to remember:
  • On Tuesday from 12:30-2:00 we will visit Pineland farms for a field trip!
  • Conferences are about half-way done and will continue into next week! We will be all done by Wednesday evening!
  • Next week we will not have school on Friday. (November 11th)
Weekly masterpieces!
