Farewell to Kindergarten

Dear Parents,

The time has come for me to send your children off to new adventures that await them.  Yesterday was bittersweet as we said hello to summer and goodbye to one another.  Your children are truly amazing.  I feel so fortunate to have been their Kindergarten teacher.  They are all unique and special in so many ways.  It is hard to believe that this school year is already over.  I want to thank all of you for your commitment to your child's education.  The children would not be where they are today if it weren't for you!  Thank you for sending your children to school every day and trusting me to take care of them and give them the best possible education they all deserve.  I have loved each and every one of them as if they were my own, and they will forever have a place in my heart.  I wish them the best as they head off to first grade.  I hope they have a summer filled with fun and play.  See you in the fall!
Fondly,
Katie

Beach Day!

We were so lucky to have the rain stay away for our trip to Crescent Beach.  The children (and adults, too) had fun learning at the beach.  Here's a snapshot of our day.  Enjoy!

Ocean Unit

This week we continued our study of the ocean.  On Wednesday, we had a guest teacher, Mrs. Landry, teach us about waves and some of the forces that cause waves.  The children had the chance to experiment with two forces that cause waves: wind and an object disturbing the water.  The students created these scenarios in the classroom by doing two different experiments.  First they dropped a marble into a bucket of water and observed the waves that were created.  They learned that different size marbles create different size waves.  Then they blew air through a straw to simulate the wind creating waves.  The children learned that stronger wind creates larger waves.

On Friday, we discussed things that are living and nonliving at the beach.  The children then worked with a partner to create an ocean mural, focusing on the intertidal zone.  They labeled the living and nonliving parts of their murals.  They will continue this work next week.

Beach Day is on Tuesday...fingers crossed for nice weather!
